Antigua

Days 34-36: Antigua

sunny 25 °C

Another fun bus trip awaits me: this time I spend the 6 hours between Coban and Flores sharing my already limited leg room with a dog. Hmmf. We pass through the ugly concrete and smog that is Guatemala City, and the mood lifts instantly as we arrive in Antigua; a colourful colonial city where ruins from the earthquake that devastated the city in 1771 are scattered amongst the rest of the hustle and bustle of the city, surrounded by volcanoes.

I complete a brief tour of the city during the day, and at sunset, which makes for some interesting cloud effects in the sky. After a feast of nachos, I get stuck into some beers with my new friends, and re-discover that "I have never" is a game to be confined to history. The salsa bar appeals to me more, though I can only apologise to the enthusiastic salsa dancer who persisted in trying to get me to salsa, despite the fact he didn't even come up to my armpits. No, salsa dancing is another no-go for my future career. I am however quite inspired: Ibiza girls, any thoughts on a trip to South America this year, there's a whole bunch of Pachas in Brazil and Argentina??

Hola de San Pedro La Laguna.
I enjoyed reading your travel blog. It makes me want to see more..... The electricity has gone out a few more times since you left, but all is well. This past Sunday I too made the trip to ChiChi mercado on a chicken bus. Well worth the experience, seeing that I am still alive and willing to get into another C bus.

Hola! Glad you enjoyed the blog, and the trip to Chichi. Did you try out your bargaining skills?
I will have to get this updated for Lake Atitlan soon, including the Dias Verde...make sure you get that photo!

your blog makes for very exciting reading! I've bookmarked you and will be coming back regularly to see what you're up to! Here's one that'll make you laugh though... you just taught me a new french word - poor provincial paysanne that I am, I didn't know what a Louboutin was - had to google it! Ha ha ha :) Not much going on over here _ the excitement of the week was having made it out to dinner without snotty toddler last night, kept feeling i'd forgotten something. I bet you don't get much on the Arsenal results over there do you? Just don't mention it ;( Glad to see you're having a ball
