Semuc Champey and the Lanquin caves

Days 32-33: Coban and around

rain 18 °C

The natural pools at Semuc Champey are buried deep in the Guatemalan countryside. We arrive after 2 hours winding through the hills amongst the clouds. The pools are good for swimming and jumping from pool to pool, though the atmosphere is somewhat killed by the arrival of 15 policemen with large guns sporting anti-narcotics squad kit. It appeared that they didn't have much better to do and wanted a free bikini show (they were happy to pose for photos but I didn't really fancy one in my bikini). More weird formations awaited us at the Lanquin caves.

I won't waste any time talking about Coban here - the guy at the hostel advised not going out after 9 and it was good advice. However, Al Carbon d'Fiora was a worthy stop for a burger, and it was nice to bump into Matt so I didn't feel quite so much like I was going to get mugged or worse!
